RTÉ Online: Aertel: Index     Aertel, RTÉ's teletext service celebrated its tenth birthday last year. From a humble installed base of 6,000 teletext televisions and an on-air time of 4 hours a day, 5 days a week in 1987, Aertel's growth has been remarkable.  The service is now updated 14 hours a day seven days a week and contains thousands of pages of information.    Aertel is a free service provided by RTÉ. No licence fee money is used to fund the service, in fact Aertel has become so successful that it is completely self financing. With over half a million teletext television sets now in Ireland, Aertel has become one of the primary sources for up to the minute information on a wide range of topics.
